Twisted Marketing can be Business Suicide
Do you think I am stupid? Bloggers study marketing tactics, why would you use text book marketing ploys to try and win over marketers?
Here are a few things irritating in the marketing arena today.
1. List builders. Someone promising you all of this great information if you join their list. Once you join, you realize you gave some idiot permission to spam the hell out of you.
2. Limited time offers. We all know if we come back tomorrow or the next day the offer will still be available.
3. Comment suicide. I really hate this, and I can not believe how many bloggers still do it. “Nice site visit mine” argh, talk about worthless information!
4. Marketing Videos. If you want to know what I have against marketing videos, I have written another entire article on that I am not Watching Your Marketing Videos.
5. Hype. “$300 in 20 minutes”, give me a break.
6.Trickery and Deception. Have you ever payed for or joined a program to find out it is not at all what you thought. Totally annoying.
This leads me to my inspiration for this post. I recently logged into my Blogcatalog and had a private message that went something like this “I was reading your blog today and was inspired to write a post”. Of course I was excited and clicked over to read the post. The subject line was, 3 Reasons Why Blogging is not for You. Okay, somewhat insulting but it was a decent article. I jog down to read the comments and to my dismay the first comment stated “It is good that my blog inspired you”.
Oh boy, is this twisted in a few ways. A personal note is a good thing, but when it really isn’t personal it becomes deceptive.
The bottom line is be careful not to commit business suicide by being watching how you market and project yourself to potential prospects. The market has gotten smarter so you need to get smarter yourself. Just because other are doing it does not mean it is not self destructive.

I feel your view point may be off in regards to your deception point. After reading the comments on the article you mentioned it does appear to be remotely sincere and genuine. What sounds twisted is the fact the post is on why blogging is for you and the commenter was saying, “I’m glad I was an inspiration.”
Personally I wouldn’t want to be the inspiration for a post on why I shouldn’t blog. That just tells me that I don’t know what I’m doing and I’ve wasted my time.
Mixed message most definitely.
